Logitech team up with UCL for Archaeological Ceramics Analysis Workshop

Logitech recently visited University College of London’s Institute of Archaeology where we presented a workshop on the creation of geological thin sections within Dr Patrick Quinn’s Archaeological Ceramics Analysis course.
The course was attended to by different levels of students from across the globe which allowed them to learn techniques to analyse and interpret cultural information from archaeological ceramic assemblages, including thin section petrography where Logitech equipment is widely used to prepare for analysis. The aim of the course was to introduce participants to different scientific approaches used for analysis.
Our in-house process development engineer, John McCrossan, presented a day of workshops utilising our PM6 Precision Lapping & Polishing machine to demonstrate the basic thin section preparation making technology focusing on bone and coal.
The full thin section creation process was covered, from cutting and trimming the material, first face lapping, glass slide preparation for bonding, bonding material to glass, excess material cutting, lapping to sample target thickness and polishing to sample target thickness.
